Does P90X Work without the Nutrition Plan?
Does P90X work without the nutrition plan?
–Breaking news: You can now “try” P90X FREE for 30 days with our Beachbody On Demand. You will also get the P90X Nutrition Guide as well. You will also have access to other workouts like P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, Brazil Butt Lift, T25, 21 Day Fix Extreme, P90X One on One’s and many others. (great value)–
Does your car run without gas or oil? To give you the short answer, I feel you will have limited results with P90X if you do not follow the P90X nutrition plan. This plan was put together to teach you how certain foods act with your body and it changes as you enter a new phase. Unless you are a nutritionist or a seasoned athlete, I always suggest that everyone follow the nutrition plan for the first 90 days. After that initial 90 days you can always tweak the nutrition plan depending on what your goals are and what you are trying to accomplish. I am not a nutritionist but I do know people who have done P90X and followed the nutrition plan and people who have done P90X and did not follow the nutrition plan. Hands down the people who follow the nutrition plan always have better results.
The P90X nutrition plan might be a little hard to follow at first but I really think you owe it to yourself to follow it to give yourself the best results possible. Once you get through the first week it will be like second nature for you. Have you heard the saying “Abs are made in the kitchen”? Ask any trainer and they will tell you that what you eat is just as important as the workouts themselves. Whether you are doing P90X, Insanity, swimming, running, hitting the gym or any other workout, you have to have some sort of nutrition plan in place to optimize your results. You also might want to consider keeping a P90X journal or diary. This will also help you stay on track as well.
Hopefully following the P90X nutrition plan does not scare you off. The purpose of it is to take the guess work out of the equation. You will know what to eat, when to eat it and what workout to do every day of the week. It’s like having your own private trainer at a fraction of the cost. Yes, it might be a tough but anything worth doing is usually tough. Your body will definitely thank you.
So if you decide to do P90X without the nutrition plan you will still get results but you will not get the best results. I know I would get even better results if I stuck to the nutrition plan 100% but a beer and some pizza just sounds so good sometimes. In the end, I know I am helping my long term health every time I do a P90X workout so I will stay on track and keep doing what I am doing. I hope that you will join me.
I know the guide is very important, but I was wondering about how to vary my beverages… water gets old. Also, can I still enjoy a Starbucks once a week? If so, what modifications should I made to my drink?
Do you like green tea? Yes, I would say to enjoy your Starbucks but the key is moderation. I think you will be fine with 1 a week. 🙂
I would like to do the P90X program, but I cannot follow the nutrition plan, because it is very meat-centric, and I am vegetarian. Moreover, my diet is also about 70-80% raw. I get my protein from things like nutritional yeast, sprouted lentils, sprouted quinoa, and nuts. I also occasionally have eggs, cottage cheese or kefir (the fraction of my diet that is not raw). Will it be possible for me to still obtain ideal results from the program with this kind of diet, as long as I adhere to the overall recommended caloric consumption and composition of calories (i.e. calories from fat, carbs, protein)?
Your diet reads like Tony Horton’s diet. Yes, you will still have great results following over all caloric consumption. Once you order your P90X you will also have access to our message boards which will give you some more vegetarian ideas.
I’m really thinking about giving this thing a shot. I can set up an exercise plan but I just can’t bring myself to go fast enough with it. Basically I need some structure (and of course a far more knowledgeable plan then the only decent ones I come up with).
I am wondering how this meal plan works. I see you listed basic percentages of protein/carb/etc but my biggest concern is does the nutrition guide set up an actual meal plan, or just give advice on types of foods to eat/avoid and just state what my values should fall between.
Asking mostly for I tried to follow Spark People’s diet plan a couple years back, but they have theirs set up as full on meals to make, that was just not possible for me to do as a single guy living alone (most things they wanted me to make would have a lot of leftover that would spoil if not used soon, which they didn’t call for). I eventually just took their values for cals/fat/carbs/protein and did my own thing. Until I sadly fell off that diet >.<
Also wondering if coffee would be allowed, or if that would be frowned upon. I figure the fancy flavor stuff would be, but what about straight black coffee? Especially come finals week I really resort to coffee.
Sorry if these seem to be odd questions, especially on a year old post.
@xxadverbxx With P90X you will know what work out to do on what day and what to eat every day. You have 2 options with the P90X nutrition Plan. You can either follow the meal plan approach or the portion approach. With the meal plan approach you will have actual recipes for your meals. If you go with the portion approach then you will just counts things like carbs, proteins, fruits, veggies etc. Be sure to order your P90X at https://www.decidetostayfit.com/p90x so you get 2 FREE P90X One on One work outs with your order.
Just finished hgc diet injections . I am now on maintenance and it is suggested to follow south beach or atkins for 3 weeks. i just bought P 90x will i still see results with this plan? any advice?
Will do, but now I’m wondering as I’m filling out the info, what does signing up for a coach do exactly? And if it is beneficial, well should I put you down as the one who referred me (and how would I do that)?
@xxadverbxx Feel free to give me a ring so we can discuss the coaching opportunity. Yes, you would put me as the coach who referred you. My coach ID # is 13165 but give me a ring so we can talk in further detail.I want to make sure you know about our sing up packages and how you can save some money.
@Stefanie I suggest following the P90X nutrition plan. Doing a low calorie diet while attempting P90X probably won’t work for you. Your body needs fuel and you will need to eat. These are tough work outs and you want to make sure you have enough energy to “Bring It” every day.
So sudden car repairs held me off. I saw somewhere else on this site that I can get a couple work out DVDs for free or something. Is there something special or anything I need to do to make sure I get that, or is it pretty cut and dry when doing the purchase?
@xxadverbxx Just be sure to order at https://www.decidetostayfit.com/p90x and you will get 2 FREE P90X One on One work outs with your purchase. there are no special requirements, just have to order from that link. Any other questions be sure to let me know.
I am on day 5 of P90X,..i borrowed it from a friend, and as of now, have (sadly) not been following the guide. i am on a tight budget and with money being tight, and so many bills..i dont really have the cash to spend on a lot of things for all the meals…ive been substituting all my old pop and sugar-y drinks for water and trying to eat more fruits, salads and granola bars…. but its just hard to follow the plan exactly. I am scared that by doing this, i wont see my results :/ … but i just have to do what i can afford. will i still be able to lose the weight and tone by doing the program and just eating better as opposed to the exact nutrition plan?
@Brittney01 Cutting out pop and sugary drinks is a good start. Remember you don’t have to eat the exact meals, you can use the portion approach. So if you know you need 5 servings of veggies and 5 proteins then that is what you need. The protein can be chicken, beef, fish etc. Your veggie servings are just that… veggies. The better you eat the better your results will be. There is a saying that states “Abs are made in the kitchen” and I am a believer in that statement. If you want the best results do your best to try and follow the nutrition guide. You will still get good results but eating right will make everything better.
I’ve been in the process of dieting and doing lots of cardio to lose weight. I’ve lost about 27lbs, and am wanting to lose 8 more to reach my goal. Afterwards, I’m planning on starting P90X. I’ve started it a couple times in years past and get through about a week or two before I burn out. However, back then I started cold turkey and hadn’t been doing anything prior. I’m hoping with my weight loss and being in better shape, I’ll be able to stick with it. Was just wondering if you have any helpful tips for someone who is ready to committ and take the challenge head on?
@Brett Congrats on your weight loss this far. 1st tip. Plan your meals. Make sure you know what you are eating tomorrow. When you say “Burn Out” do you mean that you are lacking energy to complete the workouts. This is common during the beginning of P90X but you can help get some vital nutrients with Shakeology https://www.decidetostayfit.com/shakeology/doctors-and-shakeology 2nd tip. Do you have a workout buddy who could start the same time as you and commit to the workouts as well?? This helps too. If you know a few people who want to do P90X let me know and we can start a P90X challenge group and I can get you the details on exactly what that entails.

I have enough energy to finish the workouts, although the first 2 days are brutal, but after a couple weeks I get burned out because they are the same workouts. Also, I get discouraged when I don’t see quick results. I know this isn’t a magic show, but that’s just who I am. I want to see the change. Hopefully with my recent weight loss, I’ll be more inclined to stick with it this time as I’ve been pretty diligent working out while dieting.
I’ve tried to get some guys to do P90X with me, but have been unsuccessful thus far. It’s just me, which makes it tough to hold myself accountable each and every day.
@Brett Be sure to take your before pics and measurements. A lot of time the scale doesn’t paint the whole picture. Just show up every day and you are on your way. Feel free to check in with me for some accountability. My email is in the contact us page above. Don’t forget to create your free account. https://www.decidetostayfit.com/go/free/
Hey Jeff,
On the meal plans, how do you follow it? I have research for most of the day and squeezing in the work out at night. I feel like cooking takes a lot of time. I won’t be at home to make some of the stuff. How do you deal with that? If only I have a personalized cook and just don’t have to cook!
@Jay You should use the portion approach. You don’t have to cook the exact meals that are in the guide, just track your portions. Carbs, fruits, proteins, etc. And you can even use these sheets to help https://www.decidetostayfit.com/p90x-excel-spreadsheet2.xls
i am a mother of 3 wanting to get my pre pregnancy body back. with a desperation to loose my grossly enlarged belly. i just started the p90x workouts. and its been a week now. i have been doing the cardio x once a day. and thats all the exercise i do for a day. also i havent started the nutrition plan.
my question: is the cardio x once a day and the nutrition plan good enough to achieve my desired results in 90 days. or do i have to do the cardio x twice a day?
presently i weigh 88kg; my height is 171cm. my goal is to loose 25kg by july.
i really would not mind doing the cardio x twice a day. as i must confess i am not enthusiastic about trying out the others.
having said that i am ready to take your advice get the body that i want. thanks
@osa Id you are only doing cardio X then you are not doing P90X.You are only doing 1 work out of several. If you want to get the best results you should do the Classic version of P90X and follow the P90X nutrition plan. It’s tough but it’s worth it.
I was on p90x before and was seeing results as soon as 2 weeks! Then I found out that I had a major heart condition as a result of a birth defect and the stress on my heart being active duty in the military. I had to stop anything that would cause my heart rate to go up and if I was doing anything slightly strenuous, I had to stop as soon as I broke a sweat. This was the case for almost 2 years. Last October I had to have my heart valve replaced and now able to do strenuous stuff again!! I am starting p90x back up but there is one problem this time. Due to the fact that I now have a mechanical heart valve, I am on life long warfarin treatments to keep by blood thin enough. Main foods I have to stay away from are green leafy vegetables, garlic, and nuts because they contain vitamin K and that counteracts my warfarin. I will not be able to follow the diet plan this time and was wondering if you knew a good diet plan to stick to that was warfarin friendly and not too costly.
@Patrick I would suggest seeking out an awesome nutritionist to help you out with this type a meal plan.
