How to Live in the Powerful World of Meditation
When you encounter the word meditation, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Meditation is as natural as breathing. It is something you may be used to doing at times but you aren’t just aware of it. So at any point you are just relaxing, waiting for a friend, sitting in your porch, or standing in line at a café is an opportunity that can present itself as meditation. However, if you are scrolling over your mobile or thinking about a million different things while you’re at it then that does not constitute meditation. Meditating happens when you are simply enjoying the scenery, just taking it all in, and letting go of any form of distraction.

Meditation can take less than a minute and it is not a complicated method. There is no need for elaborate breathing or some unutterable mantra. Just look out the window or up the sky then take a moment to focus on yourself. Be aware of your breathing and just let go of the drama for the day. Do this for 30 seconds and without you knowing it, you have meditated and have just gained access to a powerful tool you can use against the daily stresses of life.
Here’s how to live a better life with meditation:
- Whenever you intend to meditate, turn off all your gadgets or put them on silent mode. Your brain needs that space where it is not flooded with too much information. You need to learn to exist in the present moment where you could just sit at the back of the car doing nothing but staring out the window.
- Discover the art of doing nothing and pausing in the midst of a typically busy day enjoying simple walks in the park or on the way to work. The world of meditation requires going back to basics and just being with yourself.
- Keep it as simple as possible. There are tons of information about meditation out there offered in apps, podcasts, and books. But natural is the way to go as they will mean less distractions for you.
- So the first step would be to just look at the sky and breathe in the moment. The next step would be to build on that and then do something similar a few more times during the day. The key is to build a habit out of it until it becomes a natural part of you.
- The next time you are waiting in line, do not to open your social media. Instead, try focusing on your breath. Do the same while waiting for the kids or on the checkout line. Focus on nothing but your breath.

- After you have mastered using the small moments, you can move forward and set aside time to do longer meditation periods. When you wake up, take 3 to 5 minutes, put your hands on your tummy and simply breathe. From there, you can keep practicing in ways that will work for you best.
- Take time to just sit on a chair, lie on your back, or go for a walk. Whatever you choose to do, remember to keep focusing on your breathing. You do not have to change anything about the way your breathing goes but focus on it. You don’t even have to evaluate your breathing pattern but do pay attention to it.
- As you go deeper into your meditative practice, you will discover that meditation is a powerful tool to combat stress. And as you know, each and every single day is beset with all sorts of stressors that even in your most peaceful moments, a lot of different concerns can arise and compete for your attention.
- The curse of the so-called modern age is people ending up with more to do and even more to worry about. It is easy to turn to whatever way you can get the edge off even for a moment and while there is nothing wrong with occasional cocktails or a movie marathon, you realize they don’t really make things better. What they do is make your thought process more unruly and at this point, you need to make a conscious effort to choose meditation instead.
- If you are looking for a more long-term solution, meditation can give you an effective tool by which you can cut across the cerebral clutter. The best part is that it will only take five to ten minutes of your precious time per day compared to hours of endless episodes of reality TV.
- Contrary to popular belief though, meditation is not turning your brain off. The key to a good meditation practice is quieting all the noise that floods your brain. That means actively calming it down and not drowning it out or doping it up.
- You will also find that there are different schools of thought when it comes defining meditation. In some circles, it can entail reading a religious or philosophical text then contemplating on the key passages like in the Tao Te Ching or the Bible. If you want to explore all your options, there are specific meditative techniques you can try that have exhibited their effectiveness.
- But first, you need to find a place that is free from noise and has minimal distractions as possible. It can be the beach or the middle of your living room – it can be different for different for individuals so you have to find your own brand of quiet place. For some, before sunrise is a good time to meditate when other people are still in dreamland and they can have that peace and quiet.
- When you finally find that time and space, sit up straight and comfortably. You would want to be comfortable in this position because as you become good at it, you will find that you can stay in that meditative state longer. Experts say that sitting upright with your spine all straight allows for the energy to flow smoothly. It is also good because it can help you from falling asleep accidentally.
- In case you have back issues, just do what you think will make you more comfortable. You can elevate your rump by crossing your legs and sitting on a yoga bolster. Sitting with your back against the wall can likewise help support your spine.
- When it’s all good, you can start with 5 minutes of meditation per day then gradually increase the time as you get better at it. Most likely than not, the first few times are going to be a bit messy but it does get better with constant practice. Just remember that nothing is a waste because each time, you get one step closer to benefiting from meditation fully.
