Insanity: The Asylum Review
Insanity: The Asylum review. Well I just finished up my 30 days with Insanity: The Asylum with Shaun T and I want to put my thoughts down in writing about this awesome work out program before I have the chance to forget anything. First off, I want to say that I really have never done any work outs like Asylum before. I did Shaun T’s Insanity and Insanity prepared me for Asylum but it was still tough. This was the first time I have ever used an agility ladder or resistance bands and let me tell you, it was challenging and a lot of fun. Imagine having resistance bands around your ankles and wrists. Now get in a plank position, jump up and do sort of a plyo push up while spreading your legs and arms with the bands around them. Tough move and very challenging but that is what I purchased Asylum.
First off I want to say that if this is your first work out program then Asylum is not the place to start. You will get frustrated and be risking injury. Now that I have that out of the way, if you have just completed P90X or Insanity or are already in great shape then Asylum will make you better. If you play any kind of sport Asylum will make you better. If it doesn’t, send it back and get your money back. (Really!) If you like extreme cardio with resistance then you will like Insanity: The Asylum. One of the things that I really like about Asylum is that this was pretty much a whole new set of moves for me. I have done P90X, Insanity, RevAbs and some P90X One on Ones but this Asylum was totally new.
You will work work every muscle in your body while doing Asylum. Prior to doing Asylum I was doing and Insanity, P90X and P90X One on One hybrid and when I started Asylum I was still sore. It really hit some new muscles and worked them in a very different way. If you want to get better do something you haven’t done before. I am partial to P90X but I still liked Asylum. Asylum was the perfect length at 30 days and now I can do an Asylum/P90X hybrid. Personally, I do not like 6 days of extreme cardio but when I mix it in with P90X I think it will be perfect.
I am going to take a 3 day rest before I start the P90X/Asylum hybrid but I wanted to do something short today so I did P90X Ab Ripper X. I could not believe how easy it was. I thought for sure that it was going to be a little harder considering that I haven’t done it in a month. Boy was I wrong. This just tells me that Asylum really worked my core and I can feel it too. I definitely feel stronger in my core. My jumps are longer, my stamina is better, my agility is better and I know I accomplished something that the masses simply will not be able to do. So I guess I am chalking one up in the win column for me. If you are looking to take your fitness and agility to the next level then Asylum is for you.
Are you ready to enter the ASYLUM? Buy Insanity: The Asylum
You say “if this is your first workout program, Asylum is not the place for you.”
I am a pretty fit guy. I’ve done P90X and Insanity exercises before multiple times (not too bad for me) with friends and family whenever I’m visiting, but I have never had the time to crunch down and do it for 90/60 days respectively. Since this is only 30 days I feel like I could mentally stick with this. Physically, P90X and Insanity are OK for me but I just haven’t done them all through because I don’t have them. Do you know if I could potentially handle this?
The only type of reference I can give you is my track mile time which is a 4:41. I understand that a mile time alone cannot judge whether I am ready to commit to a 30 day program, but perhaps it can shed light on a level of cardio fitness I am in? Thanks so much in advance.
@Pavan Sounds like you are ready to take the Asylum challenge. If you have done Insanity then you have a taste of what Asylum will be like. Asylum is an awesome work out.
Is this workout primarily for guys?
My girlfriend just got done with insanity and wants to do something different but challanging. I think she is in good enough shape, but she doesn’t have a lot of muscle mass. Does this workout require more strength or could she handle it?
Yes, I think this would be a great work out for her after Insanity. It will also make her stronger since there is more resistance exercises in this one. It is definitely challenging but I am sure she will love it. Asylum also utilizes a jump rope, resistance bands and an agility ladder which come with Asylum
I’ve done the 60-day Insanity program, and still mix it in my regular workout routine. Swear by it. I live in an apartment, so I was wondering if anyone has thoughts on how doable Asylum is in a limited space. Appreciate any feedback.
You can do Asylum in the same space as Insanity. The ladder is only 5 feet long and if your ceiling is too low for a jump rope then you can just simulate jumping rope. Asylum is an awesome work out.
For me the Aylum was a bit of a let down. I feel like the strength cd is a definate plus but all the others i could easily do with out. I actually felt like i lost a little bit of speed and quickness when i went from Insanity to Insanity the Asylum. I could definately tell that i did when i started right back into Insanity, felt like i was lagging it even in the first month workouts. Now i just do Insanity and add in the strength cd from Asylum 2 days a week.
@Mike I love Asylum. I felt it was a lot tougher than Insanity. Since it is only a 30 day program it is a great way to mix up any work out routine. I’m with you on the Strength work out. I mix that in now with my p90X work outs.
Done with P90X, 2nd round of Insanity, and Turbofire!!!!! Now i am ready for the Asylum!!!! Hahahah!!! Wish me luck!!!!!
@Anthony Awesome Anthony. I definitely think Asylum is the hardest work out but I love it and I am sure you will too.
on my second day of asylum (strength), I felt that i was ttested to my limit. on the 2nd to last workout I was literally having to yell to get the last chest press up. I did insanity, and i thought i was phsically fit then. Now I know that I am on an elite level of training with Insanity: The Asylum. Pumped for tomorrrow!!!
@Oren Asylum is an awesome work out. I think it is the toughest in the whole Beachbody product line. Great Job!!!! Asylum will definitely take you to the next level.
I want to try the Asylum, but I have a slim build and didn’t want to lose to much weight. That was my issue with the regular Insanity dvd, I seemed to only lose weight and not build muscle. Would the Asylum help build muscle better or should I look towards another program?
@Tony If you are losing weight you probably are not eating enough. Did you do your calculations? Are you getting enough calories? Asylum is an awesome workout, even harder than Insanity but if you are looking for of a muscle building program then you might want to consider P90X. https://www.decidetostayfit.com/p90x
i have never done a work out video but i do go to the gym and do a pretty good workout,do u think i could do asylum?
@Eric As long as you have a base you should be fine. Asylum is challenging but that is what you want. It is also a lot of fun. Remember, if you decide it’s not for you, you can always send it back. You should consider combining Asylum with Shakeology which is our premium nutritional drink. When you purchase a combo deal you will save money and get free shipping. https://www.decidetostayfit.com/take-the-challenge
which program is better for fast fat loss? p90x/the asylum or only the asylum? please help me 😐
@Jack They are both very different programs and both promote fat loss. I guess it just depends on what you like more, extreme cardio or more weights? You will probably get quicker fat loss with Asylum. https://www.decidetostayfit.com/store-home/shaun-ts-insanity/insanity-the-asylum
does insanity asylum actually increase specific sports performance, such as vertical jump or speed? So, for example, if I recorded my vertical jump before and after insanity asylum will there be a noticeable difference?
@Chris Asylum will definitely increase your sports performance. I can’t tell you that you will see a noticeable increase in your vertical since I don’t know where you are starting from but your overall performance will be better. If it’s not, send it back for a refund.
Hi just got asylum in the mail today about to start the fitness test. My height is 6ft about and I’m about 210lbs 20 years old my bmi is almost a 29 I have some belly that needs gone. The main reason I got this workout is in a few months I’m going to las Vegas for my 21 b day and wanna look my best. My main workout I do is bench press I press 295 as my max right now do you think asylum will help me loose my belly weight if I keep at it for 4 months
@Andrew I can really sum this up in 1 word. YES!!! Asylum will help you burn fat. If you do this for 4 months be sure to take a recovery week after 30 days.
Im a high school basketball player looking to up my game by 100%. My endurance, stamina, and cardio are not where they are capable of being. I want to be the person on the opposing team that just never seems to run out of breath or energy. I want to be the best that I can be. My question is which program or programs do you think will help me reach my long sought after goal?
(my idea)Should I do insanity, or insanity and then the asylum?
or should I choose another Beachbody product?
I greatly appreciate your help!
i just did the fit test today of asylum and im just wondering will i be physically able to do these thirty days. i did insanity asylum and p90x but i didnt finish both i got about 70 days with p90x and about 45 days with insanity. i would have but i dont own them. so is this program good for me. and i only got the basic package so will i still get the same results if i went through it all.
@Israel Every program that we offer will be good for you but you have to finish them to see real results. Will you physically be able to do Asylum?? That is a question you need to ask yourself… Commit and do you best.
Umm…are you there?
@Bridget Asylum will take your game to another level but the are all good. P90X, P90X2, Insanity, Asylum…. You really can’t lose. If I had to pick one for you though for basketball it would probably be Asylum. Remember, Asylum is only a 30 day program and fitness is a life long commitment.
Hi,
I am not really what people would call a fit guy. I am currently overweight and I would like to change that. Previously, I did the Insanity and the P90x programs(both halfway with inconsistent diet) but I stopped due to being unable to keep up with the schedule and such. Do you think I would be able to do the Asylum program? I have one month before college starts where I would be too busy to do any heavy workouts again.
What do you think?
Thanks
It would be my first time with insanity. I don’t know if I should try insanity or the asylum program.
@LaLa Insanity uses no weights or other equipment. If you just want extreme cardio then Insanity is for you. Asylum incorporates a jump rope, an agility ladder, (which you get with your program)dumbbells and a pull up bar. (or dumbbells can be used here as well) I’ve done both and they are both different programs. Both are tough and a lot of fun.
I completed Insanity in may. month 2 was killer for me. my body was tired, my knees ached daily. Id love to try asylum but am a bit afraid, especially because of the knee problem. Thoughts?
@Marcia Some of the Asylum work outs have some moves that would be harder on the knees. For example Vertical Plyo might be tough on your knees but you can modify if need be. Also Speed and Agility might need to be modified a bit. You never want to risk an injury so if it hurts do not do it. Always listen to your body.
I just got Asylum and im wondering if its ok for me to start with this. Havnt worked out hard for a while but i feel im good to go but i want to make sure its safe. im 5 9 245lbs but im not just fat im big but not saggy. you think its ok for me to start with this? i already bought it and as long as its ok for a big person to do this than i am ready to go …im trying to lose about 50 puonds. i was going to repeat these workouts a few months. what do you think?
@Derrick When is the last time you had a physical? I feel Asylum is the hardest work out on the Beachbody line so I would get the green light from your doctor before you start. Always listen to your body and take breaks when needed.
my ceiling is only 7ft high. will that effect the jumping exercises and what not. also, do the asylum come with the bands?
@Nick 7 ft is pretty low but I guess it depends on how tall you are. You definitely will not be able to use the jump rope but you can simulate jump rope to modify. Yes, Asylum comes with bands but you will need a couple dumbbells and/or pull up bar for Strength day.
https://www.decidetostayfit.com/store-home/shaun-ts-insanity/insanity-the-asylum
so the jumps with the bands will be alright? and do I need both because I already have dumbbells so should I go out and buy a pull up bar?
@Nick I can’t say for sure Nick. Extend your arms in the air and jump. Do you hit the ceiling??? You will be jumping with your arms extended. Personally, I like the pull up bar but you can use dumbbells if you don’t have one.
Ok thanks
will asylum get you pretty ripped if you eat the meal plan and do the best the body lets you
@Chris I feel Asylum is the hardest program in the whole Beachbody product line. It will definitely take your fitness to the next level but to tell you that you will be ripped after is tough to do. I do not know where you are starting from and things like diet and Intensity will affect your results. I can tell you that Asylum is an awesome program. I have done it and I love. You will definitely burn some fat with Asylum. You can get more Asylum info at https://www.decidetostayfit.com/store-home/shaun-ts-insanity/insanity-the-asylum
Hello, Thank you for the review which is the best one I’ve read. I have concerns about the Insanity Asylum Programs both Volume 1 and 2. I currently play tackle football in high school (my position is wide receiver) and I was wondering if I could bulk up and get more muscle while doing these programs? Also, currently I am doing the Body Beast program where I am eating 3,400 calories a day and I still don’t get full, will I be hungry using these programs and how many calories do they eat daily for these programs to gain muscle? I read somewhere that they don’t drink milk or have dairy in this program is that true? Lastly, what option would you recommend for somebody like me that is trying to bulk up while improving speed, endurance, and stamina at the same time; that I do Body Beast while using the SKLZ products for speed, quickness, and agility OR that I just do the Asylum program by itself.
Thank you for reading
@Chris If you are just looking to bulk up then you are already doing the right program which is Body Beast. insanity will most likely slim you down but you will definitely be more agile and perform better athletically. If you are looking to cover all the bases with 1 program I would have to say P90X is the one and if you weren’t looking for size then I would suggest p90X2.
Hello Jeff, I am a 17 year old Male who is 5 ft 10 and weigh 130 pounds currently. I am a High School track runner who runs the 400m/800m. I have decent speed, but more endurance. I want to know if I start eating more food, with a more healthy diet and proper supplements if I could become quicker with more explosive speed but also get a little bigger and not be so lanky. What i mean by that is could i still improve my overall cardio while STILL becoming “ripped” and i don’t mean buff either, I mean like maybe a little more muscle mass but still be really cut and ripped looking.
Thanks, Cole
Also, do you think current body pictures would help give you a better idea of what my potential for transformation is?
Jeff,
I need your opinion. I did Insanity a while ago and loved it. I made it through. that was a while ago. Since then I have put on some weight and I am not in the same shape that I was. note that I still do the Pure Cardio Insanity (the First month) routine weekly so i am not completely out of shape.
But I need to get a new program to motivate me and I am wondering if Asylum is too tough for me at this stage. I can’t motivate myself to do Insanity again because I need something new.
Can I do Asylum? Even if I can’t do it full , I have learned that with most routines, pushing to your limits reaps results. But this might be completely out of my league. Thoughts?
Yes, I think you could do Asylum. It is tough but you will get it. You could even do Insanity for 30 days and then do Asylum for the next 30. Great program.
